3 Ways To Do Pull-Ups Outside Of The Gym

Posted on September 18, 2015 Written by James Woolley Leave a Comment

The pull-up exercise is one of the most effective exercises you can do if you want to build a bigger stronger back, and develop your shoulder and bicep muscles. Plus it will also help strengthen your core as well.

However I know that many people are too intimidated to use the pull-up bar in their local gym because they can only manage to do a few of these pull-ups, and there are also many people who cannot afford to pay a gym membership every month.

So in this article I want to discuss three ways you can do pull-ups outside of the gym:

1. Buy Your Own Pull-Up Bar

Iron Gym Pull-Up BarIt is now possible to buy pull-up bars that you can attach to the doorways in your home, and although you may question whether they can actually hold your weight, they are generally really strong and completely safe to use.

The Iron Gym pull-up bar (pictured right), for example, can be used by anyone up to 300 pounds and is one of the most popular ones on the market because it continues to receive a large number of positive customer reviews, but there are many others that you can buy online and in stores.

2. Make Your Own Pull-Up Bar

The pull-up bars that are suitable for home use can be bought for as little as $25 – $35, but you can also make your own pull-up bar if you so wish.

Mike Chang (from sixpackshortcuts.com) did just this in a video from last year, and he used nothing more than a mop, a couple of chairs and a few towels:

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend doing this yourself because it doesn’t look very strong at all, and actually looks like an accident waiting to happen to be honest, but it is another option if you do want to start using a pull-up bar outside of the gym.

3. Head To The Park

The third and final option is to visit your local park because these parks will often have bars and apparatus that you can use to perform pull-ups and chin-ups.

These will usually be cemented into the ground and the bars themselves will generally be really strong. Therefore they are perfectly safe for everyone to use.
